This is a class taught by well-known folk dance teacher and caller Madeleine Smith, started by Madeleine and Jenny Stothard in 2009 in response to Jenny's request to learn the dances of Jane Austen's time. We are a lively, friendly, established group, who welcome beginners, and have widened our scope to include all styles, though the name ‘Jane Austen dancers’ seems to have stuck! Dances are taught thoroughly, not just called, with tips on how to dance them well. We generally use recorded music, with occasional live music from musicians within the group. We are a versatile bunch, and we also have several callers among our ranks, who contribute to some evenings and can stand in. We are very much part of the local community, and regularly provide band, caller and dances for barn dances.
